Oxtra DD is a solution for injection for horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, dogs and cats. Oxtra DD is an antibiotic for the treatment of infections caused by oxytetracycline-sensitive organisms.
- Broad antibacterial spectrum of action
- Oxytetracycline inhibits protein synthesis in susceptible bacteria
- Oxtra DD can be used to treat infections caused by organisms susceptible to oxytetracycline, these may include Lawsonia intracellularis and tick-borne pathogens such as Rickettsia, Anaplasma phagocytophilum and Borellia
- Use of this product should always be based on susceptibility testing of the bacteria isolated from the animal or epidemiological information
- Dual dosing schedule possible for cattle, sheep and pigs
Indications d'utilisation
The dosage and route of administration for use in horses is presented below, the information for other target animal species is available in the SPC and product leaflet (see downloads).
Adult horse: 5 mg/kg over 3 to 5 consecutive days
Foal: 10 mg/kg for 3 to 5 consecutive days.
- The dosage for a 600 kg horse is 30 ml of solution/day. One 100ml vial can treat 2000 kg of body weight.
- The dosage for a 100 kg foal is 10 ml solution/day.
- To treat a 600 kg horse for 5 days, 2 vials are needed.
- To treat a 100 kg foal for 5 days, 1 vial is required.
For horses for intramuscular and intravenous use: Intravenous injections should be given slowly, over a period of at least one minute. Oxtra DD can be safely administered to lactating mares. Caution should be taken when using the veterinary medicinal product in animals with impaired hepatic or renal function. In addition, caution should be used in horses with gastrointestinal disorders or in horses under stress. Oxtra DD is a veterinary medicine, which should only be administered by a veterinarian.
