EQUISTRO ß-CAROTIN is a nutrient of central importance for breeding animals

Equistro B-carotin 3000 gram

ß-Carotin in horses Every mare should be prepared for mating and foaling by feeding and feed supplementation, so as to meet the specific requirements, since insufficient supplies may compromise fertility and lead to breeding losses. A nutrient of central importance for breeding animals is ß-carotene, which the body can use as a provitamin for vitamin A production. 1 mg of ß-carotene is converted into 400 IU of vitamin A. ß-carotene also fulfils specific essential functions related to the fertility of mares and stallions. It is directly associated with the production of the hormone progesterone, which is just as important for covering performance and sperm quality in stallions as for nearly all reproductive phases in mares. ß-carotene plays a role in follicle maturation and oestrus, conception and nidation and helps prevent premature abortions. High levels of -carotene in the colostrum and milk of the mare are essential to the foal – as is vitamin A . Therefore, a sufficient supply of -carotene must be ensured in pregnant mares beginning with bagging up at the latest. Unfortunately, the covering and foaling periods in this part of the world occur at times when natural sources provide only minimal, and varying, -carotene content. Supplementation of 500 mg -carotene per horse is therefore required to ensure a sufficient supply. The effects of supplementation of -carotene on the success rates, and thus profitability, of horse breeding were subjected to a 4-year study at the University of Leipzig in which 450 mares were studied (Schubert and Hennig, 1983). -carotene increased fertility and foaling rates and reduced mating frequency per pregnancy. EQUISTRO ß -carotene is a feed supplement formulated especially for breeding animals that contains, in addition to physiologically valuable -carotene, vitamins A and E as well as unsaturated fatty acids. Vitamins A and E have a synergetic relationship with the metabolism of the epithelial cells and progesterone production. Therefore, considered use of EQUISTRO ß-carotene ensures sufficient supplies as well as the flushing effect' before covering and foaling, i.e. an increased nutrient saturation (see table 2). EQUISTRO ß-carotene should be administered 6 weeks prior to the covering or foaling date as a supplement to basic feed. The daily ration of 50 g EQUISTRO ß-carotene corresponds to a carotene content of 7-10 kg of fresh young green fodder, 7.5-10 kg of carrots or 50 kg of wilted silage. '
